Snow is falling across Michigan as parts of the state prepare for up to 20 inches of snow in season's first big snowstorm.

The heaviest snowfall is forecast in the belt along southern Lake Michigan that includes Michiana, Mich., and Michigan City, Ind.

The National Weather Service says up to 14 inches of snow will fall in the northern Lower Peninsula and up to 10 inches in central Michigan.

AAA-Michigan says it's having a busy day Sunday, with 850 help calls from midnight through 12:30 p.m.

Spokeswoman Nancy Cain says there are "a lot of cars in ditches, spinouts, (and) dead batteries."

The Morning Sun in Mount Pleasant says six people were injured Saturday when a van with 13 people aboard hit a guardrail and overturned in Mecosta County.
