The National Weather Service says an approaching winter storm could drop more than a foot of snow in parts of Michiana.

The weather service has issued a winter storm warning for eight northern Indiana counties just south of Lake Michigan to the state's northeastern corner.

Storm Team 16 forecasters predict that South Bend and Elkhart will see between five and ten inches of snow. Areas south of US 6 are expected to see three to five inches.

Southwest Michigan is expected to receive between eight and 12 inches of snow. Some spots could see more than a foot.

Drifts as high as four feet are possible in some areas.

Strong northwest winds will significantly reduce visibilities with blowing snow and drifting will create hazardous driving conditions.
