South Bend water collection system nears capacity
South Bend, Ind. South Bend encourages residents to prepare for flooded roads as its water collection system nears capacity.

The City of South Bend is encouraging drivers to slow down and keep an eye out for flooded roads.
The water collection system, which normally operates around 25-percent capacity, is currently operating between 50 and 75-percent.
Flooded streets can cause drivers to hydroplane or slide out of control.
South Bend issued a request Wednesday evening for residents to help clear street catch basins. The basins are typically located near street corners or middle of the block in alleys and collect water as it flows in the street. Occasionally leaves or other debris can clog the openings, worsening flooding.
StormTeam 16 predicts the rain will continue at times through Thursday evening. South Bend may double the current rain collection total as of the city's request Wednesday's evening, which could increase the chances of flooding on Thursday.
