Michiana enjoys pleasant Easter weekend weather

After surviving a brutal winter, any hope for an early spring passed weeks ago. Over the last month, Michiana has endured plenty of rain and mostly cooler than normal temperatures.

Things finally improved this weekend with pleasant highs in the 60s and it came just in time for the Easter holiday.

Sunday afternoon, NewsCenter 16 set out to find people enjoying the nice weather, a task that proved extremely easy to accomplish.

A delayed spring had postponed many rounds of golf this year. Not the case this weekend at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course.

"We had one nice day and that's about it,” David Humen said after taking in some links. "I’ve only golfed four times this year. Two times I was still wearing a sweatshirt outside so it's nice to actually wear shorts and a short sleeve shirt,” Humen added.

Across town, the music was hard to miss at Keller Park where more than 50 family members gathered for a reunion that had grown too big for Gaylonda Richardson's house.

"We’ve got aunts, uncles, cousins, grandfathers and grandmothers. It's going great. There are a lot of kids that you got to watch, but other than that everything’s going good,” Richardson said.

Meanwhile, some walked to work off the weight Easter brunch had put on.

"I had potatoes and corn, all kinds of good stuff. Then I had ice cream and cake and then I realized it was a load. So I’m trying to work that load off,” Joe Gatto said in the middle of his 3.5 mile-long walk.

Notre Dame freshman Katie Rascob missed brunch when a bike ride and skate boarding got in the way. But by Sunday night, a late bite a Kildare’s patio was the place to be.

"When we went inside they originally had us at a table, but we knew it was so nice outside so we just asked to sit outside,” Rascob said.

Something most people didn't take for granted after a spring like this.

If you stayed inside Sunday you may regret that decision with rain expected until Friday.

This is only the second time since late October that Michiana had a weekend this warm.
