Season for severe weather is approaching; have your Weather Radios ready

It is that time of the year again when we are talking about severe weather, and one of the best ways you can stay up to date with changing weather conditions is with a Weather Radio. If you packed yours away for the winter time or it has been unplugged, it is not going to do you any good.

Michael Lewis of the National Weather Service said, "We have our traditional warning that we issue. It talks about where we expect the storm to be, where the storm is going, how fast it is moving and the cities affected. That information goes out immediately, instantaneously, and one of those tools is NOAA Weather Radio."

First off, we want to make sure you have fresh batteries. The batteries are just for back up purposes, in the event your power goes out or you take your Weather Radio with you when you are seeking shelter from severe weather.

Since the batteries in your Weather Radio are just for back up purposes, you want to make sure you keep it plugged in all the time. And if you have a midland Weather Radio, you want to make sure it is plugged into the dc jack.

If you have programmed your Weather Radio for your county code, there is no need to put it in again. If you have not programmed your Weather Radio, you can go to the Weather section on our website by clicking here and click on the banner that says Weather Radio Information. There is a video there that walks you through the entire process.

Once your Weather Radio is programmed, make sure you keep the antenna all the way up, and we recommend you keep it in the bedroom in case severe weather strikes at night.

If you do not have a Weather Radio, you can pick one up at your local Martin's Super Market store. And this year if you have plans to spend time outside, Martin's is offering a portable programmable Weather Radio, all the features of the desktop model, except you can take it with you.

The portable Weather Radios will be hitting the shelves of local Martin’s stores in mid to late April.
