From Sunday night into Monday morning, there were more than a half-dozen accidents caused by icy roadways in Elkhart County.

The first happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at U.S. 33 and U.S. 6. Police say a Goshen man was traveling westbound on U.S. 6 when his car began sliding on the ice as he was getting ready to turn onto U.S. 33.

An Auburn man was traveling behind the car when he saw it sliding around the road, but could not stop in time to avoid a crash.

Both vehicles received damage and the second driver was taken to the hospital for complaints of head and neck pain. He is expected to be okay.

Then Monday morning, around 4:30, two people suffered minor injuries after their Jeep lost control, hit a pole and a fence. Police say speed is partially to blame.

It happened on C.R. 42, just two miles west of the Millersburg city limits. The driver was cited for driving too fast for the conditions. He had cuts on his left hand but refused further medical treatment at the scene. His passenger complained of shoulder and neck pain and went to the hospital. Both of them were wearing seat belts.

Shortly after that accident, two different vehicles collided into utility poles. Police say both were single-car accidents likely caused by the slick roads. They happened at C.R. 20 and C.R. 33 and C.R. 24 between S.R. 13 and C.R. 42.

Then again after those crashes, a vehicle flipped over on the Toll Road near mile marker 103. Police say it landed in the median. There was also an accident on C.R. 38, west of C.R. 31.

Luckily, no one was seriously hurt in any of these incidents. Police remind drivers to take it slow on the roads when winter weather conditions arise.
