Heavy rains continue, Elkhart County residents prepare for flooding

Michiana's continuous rainfall continues to cause problems for a handful of homeowners.

Some are already preparing for possible flooding especially in Elkhart County along the river. The county is offering sand bagging sites if you need it.

For Stacy Lotz her entire backyard has flooded multiple times when it rains days at a time. She lives in DeCamp Gardens in Elkhart.

She says this week will probably be the worst yet.

The river continues to rise and she's had both sub-pumps going for days now to keep the water out of basement.

“Oh yeah it’s definitely going to come up,” says Lotz. “I can expect within the next couple of days as they are saying it’s going to rain. I'm going to expect it’s going to be the worst that we've had.”

Elkhart County Emergency Management says they have not received any calls for assistance and so far homeowners haven't reported any serious flooding in the area.

There are two locations in Elkhart County where you can bag your own sand.

One is at the Elkhart County Highway maintenance garage on C.R. 7 and at The Boy Scout Camp parking lot on C.R. 46.
