Explosion at Mishawaka AEP substation

Just before Sunday's storms rolled through, there was an explosion at one of American Electric Power's grids in Mishawaka. The blast happened at the substation on Jefferson and Capital around 10:30 p.m.

Our cameras couldn't get too close to the fire for safety reasons, but flames could be seen from across the street.

Luckily, no one was injured from the blaze. It didn't cause any outages either, although some people did experience a quick flicker with their power.

This was not related to the blown transformer near Edwardsburg earlier in the day. More than 4,000 AEP customers lost power due to that incident. It has all been restored there.
