As the storm rolled in, a group of people huddled inside Candlewood Suites Hotel on Lincolnway West.

One member of the group is Tom Koop, who works for AEP and is in from out of town staying at the hotel. He’s been helping restore power in the area for days.

"There’s a lot of outages up here, and we were gonna go home tomorrow, but I don’t think we are now,” said Koop.

Sheets of wind and rain swept outside as tornado warnings sounded. Across town, in the River Park neighborhood of South Bend, a tree fell onto a man’s car just minutes after he left it.

“The winds just came, swirling,” said Roger Madaras, whose stepdad had just left the van.

“It’s amazing, very frightening,” he added.

A few blocks away, three went to the hospital after a tree fell into their house. A 3-year-old, 17-year-old and their mother went after the tree hit.

For the second time in a week, severe weather uprooted trees, and lives.
