Community Severe Weather Seminar

If you have an interest in the weather, then this is the place for you. The 4th annual Community Severe Weather Seminar, hosted by local media, the National Weather Service, and Emergency Managers from around Michiana, will be held on Saturday, March 4. Mike Hoffman and Cindi Clawson will be representing WNDU at the event.

This has been a popular event in the past, attracting people of all ages who want to learn more about severe weather and how to stay safe. Along with a presentation on the media's role in severe weather events, there will be a Question and Answer session with the media, the National Weather Service and Emergency Managers. There will also be a Spotter Training course and door prizes.

Spotters are needed to assist the National Weather Service by being their "eyes on the sky", while forecasters are closely watching storms on the radar. Spotters are an integral part of helping the NWS to get a full picture of what is going on with storms, and their reports can lead to severe weather warnings being issued more quickly, potentially saving lives.

The seminar will be held at the Main Branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library in Downtown South Bend from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

The seminar starts at 9:30, but please come early to register (library opens at 9:00). Spotter training is slated to begin at 11:00.

Light refreshments will be available. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the event from local vendors including Macy's, Dominick's Pizza, Zolman Tire, Indulgence Pastry Shop, Culver's, Studebagels and the South Bend Silverhawks.

If you are unable to attend this event, but would still like to be trained to be a weather spotter, check the NWS calendar for additional training dates/places:
