Firefighters are getting close to containing a Texas wildfire that has scorched 15,000 acres, destroyed homes and forced the evacuation of a small town.
The Texas Forest Service says the fire was 75 percent contained late Monday as wind speeds diminished.
Officials are assessing damage and the loss of livestock from the weekend fire that forced the evacuation of Wheeler, a panhandle town of about 1,300. Residents returned and power was restored Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters are also fighting several other wildfires in the state, including one that destroyed three homes in Gregory, in San Patricio County across the bay from Corpus Christi.
On Thursday, all of Texas will be under critical wildfire danger from dry and windy conditions.
