High winds associated with the remnants of Hurricane Ike caused widespread power outages throughout Indiana.

Duke Energy reports about 197,000 customers without power in the southern half of the state. The biggest outages are in Floyd and Clark counties in southern Indiana.

Another 35,000 Vectren customers in southwestern Indiana are without power, and the company's Chase Kelley says it could be Wednesday or Thursday before their power is restored.

Indianapolis Power and Light spokesman Matthew McCardle blamed the wind for outages that at one point left 15,000 customers without power in the city.
