Monday will be a play day for tens of thousands of schoolchildren in Michigan, one of the states that's taken a pounding from a winter storm.

More than ten inches of snow are on the ground across parts of the state and at least 150 school districts have called off Monday classes.

AAA Michigan says it helped more than 3,000 drivers who had spun out, gotten stuck in ditches or couldn't start their vehicles.

Sunday's brew of snow, sleet and freezing rain has caused problems from the Great Lakes to New England. A jetliner skidded off a runway near Providence, Rhode Island, but no one on the plane was hurt.

Hundreds of flights were canceled in Chicago and Boston.
