Ten days after the end of the official Atlantic hurricane season, Subtropical Storm Olga has formed over the Virgin Islands.
The storm is east of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic with maximum sustained winds near 45 miles per hour and forecasters say some strengthening is possible before the storm reaches the Dominican Republic.
Forecasters warn it could produce near-gale force winds across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico and say its heavy rains also could cause life-threatening flash-floods and mudslides in Puerto Rico and Hispaniola.
