The power is back on in most of the 130,000 Pacific Northwest homes and businesses that were darkened yesterday by a fierce storm with hurricane-force winds.

Utility crews repaired most of the electrical outages by midnight, and they've continued to work this morning.

Winds higher than 70 miles per hour blew trees and branches onto power lines and into cars and houses. The worst of the storm damage occurred west of the Cascade Range.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts up to 119 miles per hour blew higher than the 10,000-foot level of Mount Ranier.

The region's largest utility had about 77,000 homes and businesses in the dark at various times yesterday.
