Janet Kucharski Memorial Volleyball Tournament and Memorial Walk

Grace Christian School, 325 N. M-140, Watervliet, MI 49098
Friday, September 19 & Saturday, September 20, 2014 mark the dates of the 5th Annual Janet Kucharski Memorial Volleyball Tournaments & Memorial Walk, hosted by Grace Christian School. This event is held in memory of our dear friend and former colleague, Janet Kucharski, who lost her battle with breast cancer in February of 2010. To honor her memory, the monies collected from these events will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to “save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for those in need.” Donations to this foundation help provide free mammograms for women, who would otherwise be unable to afford this preventative and life-saving screening, and fund educational programs that supply answers to breast cancer patients, survivors, and anyone whose life is touched by breast cancer. In addition to supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a small portion of the proceeds will be donated to fund a $1000 scholarship in memory of Janet Kucharski. This scholarship was enacted to benefit a family of Grace Christian School directly affected by cancer, a long-term illness, or disability by giving them $1000 to assist with their tuition for the upcoming school year.
The weekend will begin on Friday, September 19 with a Co-ed volleyball tournament at Grace Christian School, open to anyone in the community interested in participating in this event. Contact Jody Thompson for information regarding registering your team for this event (269-463-5545 ext. 15 or athletics@gcspatriots.com). During the volleyball tournament, a benefit spaghetti supper will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. New to the events this year is a Memorial Walk. Walk the illuminated path to remember loved ones lost to cancer and to honor those battling the disease. Luminaries can be purchased on the day of the event or you can find additional pre-ordering information by visiting: https://sites.google.com/a/gcspatriots.com/jkmemorial/. The Memorial Walk will be from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The event will continue on Saturday as Grace will be hosting a high school varsity volleyball tournament beginning at 9 am. Grace Christian is located at: 325 N. M-140, Watervliet, MI 49098.
