BRISTOL HILLS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

Elkhart County Historical Museum 304 W Vistula, Bristol IN 46507
At the 25th ANNUAL BRISTOL HILLS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

Come, sit, listen, laugh and reminisce while our 2014 nationally known featured tellers Bil Lepp and Beth Horner take your imagination and memories away to other times and places. You’ll find yourself laughing, caught up in an adventure with intriguing characters, or you may find a story reminds you of an experience long ago and forgotten. Our hope is that you will be inspired to share and pass on your stories with friends and family.

The 25th ANNUAL BRISTOL HILLS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL will be held Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the ELKHART COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM, at 304 W. Vistula Street in Bristol. Parking is available at the Museum, the Post Office, and across the street.

The Museum will remain open during the Storytelling Festival. Visitors are encouraged to browse through the exhibits before the program to learn about local history. Tour guides will be available to direct our guests through the galleries. In addition, you will enjoy listening to the “Promissory Notes" playing authentic, acoustic folk and mountain music both nights before the featured teller performance.

The Swapping Ground precedes the Featured Telling at 5:30 pm with local informal audience participation and is open to anyone wishing to share or just listen to a story. Traditionally the Swapping Grounds provides an opportunity for interested people to tell a story in front of a supportive audience. So come and tell your true, funny, a tall tale or personal story that goes between “Once upon a time” and “the end”. Be brave, have fun, give your story wings in the Swapping Ground. Featured tellers are at 7 pm. Admission is $10. Stories are family oriented for adults and teens.
The 2014 Festival featured storytellers will be:
Bil Lepp: Growing up in a family where it was the responsibility of the listener to decide whether or not a story was true, Bil became adept at spinning tales and exaggerating circumstances at an early age. Audiences are delighted by Bil’s hilarious tales and delightful insights into everyday life. Be it a plunger, a hunting trip, or a funeral, Bil can find the humor in any situation. His stories often start as personal experiences, move toward outrageous, and become hysterically unbelievable. Yet they contain morsels of truth and wisdom. True life or true lie? You may never know.

Beth Horner: Beth’s goal as a storyteller is to entertain and to encourage her listeners to dip into the wealth of their own imaginations. “When you watch a story on television or in a movie theater, you see one person’s (the film maker’s) depiction of an image – of a monster, a prince or an enraged tiger eating a buffalo chip! When you hear a story, you create that image yourself. When I’m telling stories to 50 different people, there are 50 different movies going on in the minds of listeners. Nothing is as powerful or vivid as your own imagination.”

Krasl Art Center’s Fall Class Lineup Released

Sep 29, 2008 - Jan 1, 2009 Beginning Monday: 10AM - 4PM

Krasl Art Center 707 Lake Boulevard St. Joseph, Michigan

Fall classes for both adults and children will begin on September 29 at the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, Michigan.

The Krasl is widely known for its extensive adult class list in jewelry. This fall you will see classes in metal clay, silversmithing, basic jewelry, beach glass, earrings, and an interesting new class called Knitting with Wire where participants learn the ancient Viking method of knitting strands of wire to form beautiful supple necklaces, bracelets and anklets.

Ceramics always plays a big role in Krasl classes because of the extensive ceramics studio at the Center with several kilns to fire class work. This fall is no exception with classes in Raku, sculptural ceramics, and basic skills, not to mention a new Wednesday evening class.

The Krasl also offers a class every Tuesday year-round for home school students. This fall it is Ceramic Overview for ages 4-12, where students will look at ceramics around the world while learning fundamental skills. Family workshops are a popular activity and the Krasl offers several, including Family Art Studio, and Family Woodworking.

The old favorites are still available at the Krasl. Classes for ages 4-7, and ages 8-14, where basic skills are learned as well as more advanced techniques are available in drawing, oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, textile painting, sculpture, and even cartooning. And brand new for this year is our Teen Intensives for ages 12-17. Ceramics, drawing studio, and textile painting are taught Tuesdays or Wednesdays after school.

Glass classes are still hot, and the Krasl offers glass bead making and glass fusing workshops as well as mosaics. And for those whose kids on a tighter Holiday budget than they are, the Krasl offers Giftmaking Galore, where kids can make gifts and cards for all occasions.

The Krasl offers scholarships for those who qualify; information about classes, fees, as well as scholarships is available at (269) 983-0271.
Or click here to download a fall class brochure

The Krasl Art Center is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization owned and operated by the St. Joseph Art Association, Inc.
