SBCT Presents Acclaimed One-Man Show "Churchill" August 9!

The South Bend Civic Theatre Wilson Mainstage: 403 N. Main St. South Bend
Acclaimed Chicago actor Ronald Keaton performs his one-man show “Churchill,” based on the life and writings of one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century.
Experience the man who famously proclaimed, “I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter…” Come hear Winston discuss his failures and his successes, his love of art, liquor, and women, and the bravery of Britain’s finest hour.
It is March 1946. At the culmination of World War II, Winston Churchill has been defeated for re-election. Sitting in forced retirement with wife Clementine at his home, Chartwell, Churchill receives an invitation from President Harry S. Truman to speak in Fulton, Missouri.
The play takes place on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton. Churchill shares his life and many views on the world with his audience.
RONALD KEATON (Winston Churchill), a native of New Castle, Indiana, makes his debut in South Bend with his solo play Churchill. Ronald proudly bases himself in Chicago and has appeared in various theatres – Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Marriott’s Lincolnshire Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace, Theatre at the Center, Theater Wit, and Oak Park Festival Theater, among others. His regional credits include the Indiana Repertory Theatre, Houston’s Alley Theatre, the Nat Horne Playhouse in New York City, and the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami. He is an elected representative on the Central Regional Board of Actors Equity Association.
Ronald wears many hats in the theatre – actor, writer, singer, director, stage manager, arts advocate. Ronald has an active career in commercial and voice for radio. As a writer, he has also written a solo musical Whispers from the Moon, and a musical adaptation of the classic Edwin O’Connor novel The Last Hurrah, both with his writing partner, composer and conductor William Underwood. Currently, Mr. Keaton is the artistic director of the fledgling SoloChicago Theatre, which promotes the creation and development of solo performance “…one actor at a time.”
“Churchill” performs in the Wilson Theatre August 9 at 7:30 PM. For tickets, call the Box Office at 574-234-1112 or in person at 403 N. Main St. in South Bend or buy online.

1000 W. Hively Ave. Elkhart, IN 46517
Want cooperative kids and a happier family? CAPS can help with that!
As the saying goes, “kids don't come with instruction manuals,” but that does not mean raising them has to be overly stressful. First Friday Author Signings

Better World Books - Goshen, 215 S. Main Street, Goshen, IN 46526
August First Friday Signings
Rachel Gerber, author of Ordinary Miracles

Where is God in the midst of temper tantrums, laundry, and accidents? In this honest, devotional memoir about mothering three busy boys, ordained Mennonite minister and blogger Rachel S. Gerber gives voice to the grit of parenting with stories of hope. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, who failed at first to recognize the Christ walking beside them, Rachel learns to discover the gifts and holy calling hidden in the events of harried family life. Overburdened parents will find encouragement in Rachel s own story of how, in her darkest hour of disorientation, in the most mundane and ordinary days of motherhood, and in moments of exhilaration, joy, and beauty, God is present.
Ordinary Miracles offers hope and a sense of purpose in the midst of the exhausting and harrowing days of parenting young children. It is an invitation to consider where God surprises us in the midst of ordinary life, awakening our inner sight to see that as we care for our children, we love and serve the God who created them.
Rachel S. Gerber is an ordained minister in the Mennonite Church USA and the proud mama of three boys. She has a masters of divinity degree from Eastern Mennonite Seminary and an undergraduate degree from Goshen College. Married to Shawn for fourteen years, Gerber and her family live in Bloomington, Indiana. She is currently the Mennonite Church USA denominational minister of youth and young adults and has previously worked in ministerial positions in Mennonite congregations in Colorado and Indiana. She has also written curriculum, devotionals, and articles for a variety of publications on a range of topics from spiritual formation to dramatic skits. In her spare time between balancing work with diapers, dishes, and dinosaurs, Rachel enjoys speaking, traveling, and a really great cup of dark roast coffee.
Laurie Gray, author of The Guide to Socratic Parenting, Just Myrto and others
Learn how your children can benefit from the powerful, compassionate, and effective techniques of Socratic parenting in this guide that draws from ancient wisdom to create a new paradigm for modern parents.
Showing how to apply the Socratic method to parenting, this book focuses on developing a personal parenting philosophy and sharing that philosophy with your child through dialogues, asking open-ended questions, and modeling the behavior you want to see in your child. While traditional punishment and reward techniques may condition desired behaviors, parents who develop their own self-discipline and critical-thinking skills will naturally encourage their children to become self-disciplined, independent thinkers.

Laurie Gray earned her B.A. from Goshen College and her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law. Between college and law school, she taught high school Spanish, working summers as an interpreter in Guatemala. An experienced trial attorney and child advocate, Laurie is the founder of Socratic Parenting LLC (www.SocraticParenting.com). Laurie's debut novel Summer Sanctuary received a Moonbeam Gold Medal for excellence in young adult fiction and was named a 2011 Indiana Best Book Finalist. She has two additional novels and a parenting book scheduled for publication through Luminis Books: Maybe I Will (2013), Just Myrto (2014), and A Simple Guide to Socratic Parenting (2014). In addition to writing, speaking and consulting through Socratic Parenting LLC, Laurie works as an adjunct professor of criminal sciences at Indiana Tech and as a bilingual forensic interviewer at the Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Cousin Vinny Author Signing

Better World Books - Goshen, 215 S. Main Street, Goshen, iN 46526
The Devil's Glove by Cousin Vinny
Before he wastes his time and efforts on this ploy, Satan needs to test God to make sure that he will condemn the offender to eternal damnation for this particular mortal sin. He needs to find a suitable subject to be the focus of his evil experiment. Stooping to new depths, Satan sets his crosshairs on the clinically depressed in this morality tale that follows two generations of a cursed baseball glove's ownership.
The first owner, a perennial minor league baseball player enervated by years of failure and disappointment, suffers a nervous breakdown and delusively asks for Satan's help in his quest to play in the Major Leagues of baseball. Satan is more than happy to grant his wish, as long as he gives his life in return. When the debt is paid, The Devil's Glove seeks new victims.
Will God allow Satan to benefit from his despicable plan, or will he do the unprecedented? In The Devil's Glove, God and Satan continue their timeless, unending battle, struggling for possession of our souls. Batter up!
Cousin Vinny:
A 1992 graduate of Western Connecticut State University, Louis “Cousin Vinny” Agnello Jr. is the heir of his late father’s writing dream, though the path to achieving that goal was circuitous. He spent one year studying coaching at Southern Connecticut State University before becoming a pioneer of the lucrative male exotic dancing fad that swept the nation in the early 1980′s. Later he would become the outspoken and controversial “Stripper King of New York.” He has appeared as a studio guest of pundits such as: Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Judith Regan, and Regis Philbin.
