South Bend Civic Theatre presents a comedy of fear, family, faith and the end of the world - End Days June 7-16!
Rachel is a teenager with problems way beyond normal – her dad just stays in his pajamas and never leaves the house, her mother has adopted Jesus as her personal friend (really, he’s making coffee in the kitchen), and the boy across the street dresses like Elvis and tries to ask her out. Oh, and her mom believes the end of the world is imminent, like Tuesday! This quirky group of characters comes together in surprising and unexpected ways in this play about family, science, and faith. From Deborah Zoe Laufer, the author of Out of Sterno, presented by SBCT in 2010.
Director Sara Bartlett leads Tucker Curtis, Arthur Gilchrist, Isabelle Gilchrist, Andrea Smiddy-Schlagel, and Avery Worrell in this touching and funny play.
Critics have delighted in End Days: The New York Times said “this rapturously funny play about a family trying to survive in a world hurtling toward Armageddon proves that the right playwright can inspire healing laughter.” The Huffington Post called the play “poignantly redemptive and hilariously funny… it brings to life our broad range of choices, including laughter, and the treasured companions who are there even when we face our own personal Armageddon.” From the Denver Post, “End Days directly pits science, religion, and suburbia, but it’s not an attack on any of them. There’s not a trace of mockery… each [character is] tinged with compassion, humor and heartbreak.” And Variety remarked “two acts are too short a time to spend with Deborah Zoe Laufer’s lovable characters… a sweet-spirited script.”
South Bend Civic Theatre’s production of End Days opens in the Warner Studio Theatre June 7 and runs through June 16. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM ($18), Sundays at 3:00 ($18), Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM ($15). Call 574-234-1112 or go online at www.sbct.org for tickets.
