SBCT Presents Acclaimed One-Man Show "Churchill" August 9!

Date(s): 8/9/2014

August 9 at 7:30 PM

The South Bend Civic Theatre Wilson Mainstage: 403 N. Main St. South Bend
Acclaimed Chicago actor Ronald Keaton performs his one-man show “Churchill,” based on the life and writings of one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century.
Experience the man who famously proclaimed, “I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter…” Come hear Winston discuss his failures and his successes, his love of art, liquor, and women, and the bravery of Britain’s finest hour.
It is March 1946. At the culmination of World War II, Winston Churchill has been defeated for re-election. Sitting in forced retirement with wife Clementine at his home, Chartwell, Churchill receives an invitation from President Harry S. Truman to speak in Fulton, Missouri.
The play takes place on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton. Churchill shares his life and many views on the world with his audience.
RONALD KEATON (Winston Churchill), a native of New Castle, Indiana, makes his debut in South Bend with his solo play Churchill. Ronald proudly bases himself in Chicago and has appeared in various theatres – Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Marriott’s Lincolnshire Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace, Theatre at the Center, Theater Wit, and Oak Park Festival Theater, among others. His regional credits include the Indiana Repertory Theatre, Houston’s Alley Theatre, the Nat Horne Playhouse in New York City, and the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami. He is an elected representative on the Central Regional Board of Actors Equity Association.
Ronald wears many hats in the theatre – actor, writer, singer, director, stage manager, arts advocate. Ronald has an active career in commercial and voice for radio. As a writer, he has also written a solo musical Whispers from the Moon, and a musical adaptation of the classic Edwin O’Connor novel The Last Hurrah, both with his writing partner, composer and conductor William Underwood. Currently, Mr. Keaton is the artistic director of the fledgling SoloChicago Theatre, which promotes the creation and development of solo performance “…one actor at a time.”
“Churchill” performs in the Wilson Theatre August 9 at 7:30 PM. For tickets, call the Box Office at 574-234-1112 or in person at 403 N. Main St. in South Bend or buy online.

Certain stories carry on from generation to generation and earn the designation “timeless” for good reason. Beauty and the Beast is one such story. Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has been charming Broadway audiences for more than 10 years, and every year a whole new generation discovers the magic behind the castle walls. Brilliantly adapted from the Academy Award-winning animated film, this much-loved spectacle has thrilled more than 20 million people worldwide with show-stopping musical numbers, astonishing sets, lavish costumes and never-before-seen magic and special effects. In Beauty and the Beast, Belle, a young woman in a small, provincial town, meets the Beast, in reality a young prince whose lack of compassion has trapped him in a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and to be loved, the spell will be broken and he will be transformed back to his former self. But time is running out, and if the Beast does not learn his lesson, he will be doomed for all eternity. Be our guest for a storybook theatrical experience your whole family will love!

This year we are doing a murder mystery of three acts in our comedy/drama slot. Recognizing the popularity of the novel, Christie chose to dramatize it for the stage, believing it to be her best piece of “craftsmanship”. The play opens in the living room of a house on an island off the coast of Devon. Ten guests have been invited for a holiday, and then they begin to mysteriously die or disappear.
