Friday, Sept 19 from 4:30 to 9:30 & Saturday, Sept 20 from 9 am to 5 pm

Grace Christian School, 325 N. M-140, Watervliet, MI 49098
Friday, September 19 & Saturday, September 20, 2014 mark the dates of the 5th Annual Janet Kucharski Memorial Volleyball Tournaments & Memorial Walk, hosted by Grace Christian School. This event is held in memory of our dear friend and former colleague, Janet Kucharski, who lost her battle with breast cancer in February of 2010. To honor her memory, the monies collected from these events will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to “save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for those in need.” Donations to this foundation help provide free mammograms for women, who would otherwise be unable to afford this preventative and life-saving screening, and fund educational programs that supply answers to breast cancer patients, survivors, and anyone whose life is touched by breast cancer. In addition to supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a small portion of the proceeds will be donated to fund a $1000 scholarship in memory of Janet Kucharski. This scholarship was enacted to benefit a family of Grace Christian School directly affected by cancer, a long-term illness, or disability by giving them $1000 to assist with their tuition for the upcoming school year.
The weekend will begin on Friday, September 19 with a Co-ed volleyball tournament at Grace Christian School, open to anyone in the community interested in participating in this event. Contact Jody Thompson for information regarding registering your team for this event (269-463-5545 ext. 15 or athletics@gcspatriots.com). During the volleyball tournament, a benefit spaghetti supper will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. New to the events this year is a Memorial Walk. Walk the illuminated path to remember loved ones lost to cancer and to honor those battling the disease. Luminaries can be purchased on the day of the event or you can find additional pre-ordering information by visiting: https://sites.google.com/a/gcspatriots.com/jkmemorial/. Chenery Auditorium, 714 South Westnedge, Kalamazoo, MI 49007
The Jubilee Christmas Tour features three of Southern Gospel Music’s most recognized artists, The Booth Brothers, Greater Vision and Legacy Five. The 2014 Christmas Jubilee Tour will begin on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:00 pm, at Chenery Auditorium in Kalamazoo, MI, and continues through December 15 at select cities spread across the US and Canada.
What began as a light-hearted lunch conversation between three friends, has become one of the most popular concert tours in Gospel Music. Managed and promoted exclusively by IMC Management, The Jubilee Christmas Tour brings three of the most popular groups in Southern Gospel Music together for a unique and unforgettable concert experience. The event has proven to be very popular in cities across the United States, and has enjoyed sell-out concert attendance in numerous cities. In 2012, the three artists united to release the Jubilee Christmas recording, and in 2013, added an acappella recording featuring incredible 10-part harmonies on your favorite Christmas selections.
The unscripted and spontaneous format is both entertaining and inspirational, providing audiences with a most enjoyable, must-see evening. You'll sing-along on many of your favorite Christmas songs, as well as hear some newer, soon-to-be Christmas Classics. The historic, completely renovated Chenery Auditorium offers an evening of first class entertainment for adults of all ages in a beautiful and memorable setting—with intimate, comfortable, unobstructed seating where you are surrounded with faith-based music that is second to none.

The Talleys have become one of the most beloved and respected groups in Christian music. The east Tennessee family's unmistakable style of progressive southern gospel has kept them at the forefront of gospel music for many years. The hallmarks of the "Talley" sound are their lush arrangements, close-knit harmonies and powerful vocals.

The Talleys' top priority in concert is to lift up Christ in their music while presenting the message with class and excellence. Their professionalism is only superseded by their ability to connect with an audience through warmth and sincerity.

Their songs and recordings have received awards and nominations from the Dove Awards, Singing News Fan Awards, the Southern Gospel Music Guild Harmony Honors, the BMI Awards and SGN Music Awards. Each member of the Talleys has received individual honors for their work.

Roger, Debra, and Lauren are involved in many endeavors individually and keep a busy traveling and recording schedule, but they are focused on one goal: sharing the message of Christ. Whether in a church sanctuary, on a concert stage or around the dinner table, their focus is God and family.

Brian Weeks Author Signing (First Friday)

Date(s): 9/5/2014

Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6-8 p.m.

Better World Books - Goshen, 215 S. Main Street, Goshen, IN 46526
Join us to welcome newly published children's author, Brian Weeks, introducing THE ADVENTURES OF RICKY RACCOON. Brian hails from LaPorte, Indiana, where he began spinning yarns for his family.

An excerpt:
Ricky started down the path, and then all of a sudden, he fell five feet down into a pit filled with snakes. Ricky screamed as the snakes started to circle him. The walls of the pit were too high for Ricky to escape. What should he do?

As the howling of wolves and other strange noises fill the night air, Ricky Raccoon must venture into the Neverending Forest to find his parents. Nothing good has ever come out of the forest, and villagers never dare to go in---and if they do, they are never seen again.
Join Ricky on his first adventure as he meets the queen of the forest, helping her on a special quest, and as he faces alligators, giant spiders, snakes, packs of wolves, and eventually the evil Lord Turmoil. Will Ricky manage to find his parents and save them? Will he ever be able to escape the Neverending Forest?

The Adventures of Ricky Raccoon will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Friday, September 5, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

Better World Books - Goshen, 215 S. Main Street, Goshen
Meet author Stephen Russell, and enjoy his informative presentation about his new book, THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO CULTIVATING MUSHROOMS.

With clear instructions and step-by-step photographs, this comprehensive guide shows you how to cultivate mushrooms in your own home, producing shiitakes, oysters, lion's manes, maitakes, and portabellos for your kitchen or for a small business. Beginners will learn the best way to use a mushroom kit, as well as how to maintain the sterile procedures and controlled environment that cultivation requires. Novices and the more experienced will learn how to create grain spawn or sawdust spawn and how to use liquid cultures and fruiting chambers. Advanced readers will gain a thorough knowledge of how to work with large-scale grain spawn, agar, bag cultures, bulk substrates, and large fruiting chambers to produce mushrooms consistently and in greater quantity.

The Ripple Effect Vocal Interviews

Date(s): 9/6/2014

September 6, from 10am-1pm

Southside Christian Church, 1329 E. Jackson Rd., South Bend
Calling All Vocal Visionaries!
Does your fervor for singing beckon you beyond the shower?
Does the thought of uniting our community with a renewed hope of understanding and peace make your heart flutter?
Then The Ripple Effect is for you!
Directed by Sherry K, this exciting new singing group is not just another community choir, but a Vocal Visionary Project.
So what does that mean?
The first of its kind in the Michiana area, The Ripple Effect is dedicated to the unification of community and transformation of social awareness. A unique ensemble-in-residence at Southside Christian Church (DOC), the singers place much emphasis on diversity, hope, and healing, as well as mega doses of fun! Their eclectic, challenging repertoire includes everything from hymns and spirituals to jazz and musical theater. The choir's aspiration is to influence and encourage others to make a difference by building bridges, promoting kindness, and "rippling" out in their own lives. The Ripple Effect is not just a group of voices, but a collective truth-speaking voice in the community, by way of the enormous power of music.
Vocal interviews will be held at Southside Christian Church (1329 East Jackson Rd., South Bend) Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, 10 am - 1 pm. No prepared music is required. Rehearsals will be held Tuesday evenings 7-9 pm. Members are asked to donate $100/year to The Ripple Effect, or $40/individual concert. Please contact Sherry K about a possible scholarship if there is an inability to donate.
So you can't carry a tune in a bucket but want to jump aboard the rippling choir-wagon? There are SOO many ways you can help, such as donating money for materials/scholarships, ushering at concerts, serving on the Board of Directors, writing grants, etc. For more information, contact Sherry K by emailing sherry@sherryk.com (preferred) or calling 574-291-9044.

In 1865, just 23 years after the University of Notre Dame was founded, the school established science as a course of study. Over the last 150 years, the field has grown into a major educational and research enterprise at the school. Today, Notre Dame’s College of Science offers courses in applied mathematics and statistics, biological science, chemistry and biochemistry, mathematics, and physics. Research efforts of the nearly 2,500 faculty and students in Notre Dame’s College of Science achieve significant results. Through such artifacts as early lab equipment, molecule models, and fossils, the exhibit captures all the intrigue and discovery of science, as well as the moments of research that have impacted the country, and indeed, the world.
