Halloween is only days away, and your kids are probably itching to head out Trick-or-Treating.
Problem is the older kids do not want mom and dad tagging along, but that does not mean you have to cut them loose entirely. There are plenty of smart-phone apps that will help you keep track of your kids at all times.
At 12-years-old, Max Cutlip is ready to set out on his own.
"It's really annoying to have her walking around with me."
At least for Halloween this year…
"I'm just gonna walk around with my friends and hit all the good houses."
So what is a parent to do? Mary Phillips says she's taking to a milder and kinder form of big brother, or in this case, big mother, potentially GPS tracking Max with a cell phone.
Parent, Mary Phillips, said, “The kids really do want to go off and be with their friends and they don't want mom and dad tagging along."
It is called Trick or Tracker, a Halloween themed app for making sure you know where your kid is at all times, without actually having to be there with your little loved one.
"I just hit 'locate my child,' said Mary Phillips.
"That would be better than having her follow me around, I guess," said Max.
The catch: Max needs an Android phone, which will run you at least $100 with a contract, and then another $9.99 for the app.
"Trick or Tracker" is not the only option.
On the i-phone, there is the Life 360 free Family GPS Tracker, which also lists sex offenders in the area.
The family tracker will run you either $3.99 or $5.99 and will pop up a message on the home screen of the phone telling your child that you are looking for him.
Parent Marc Mandrano said, “I think that part of my job as a parent is to foster their independence and exist at some point when I'm not going to be there. It's a different world than it was."
