A new dimension is coming to television

Television makers are looking to add a new dimension to what you see on the tube, literally.

Many of the exhibitors at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week were touting their ability to bring you their video wares in 3-D.

From live TV to home theaters, to webcams and even portable devices, screens are being outfitted with the ability to see things in depth, as well as the other two dimensions currently available.

For example, Panasonic showed off a plasma screen at CES that showed animated movies and Olympic highlights in three dimensions.

The others of the top four TV makers for the US market: Samsung, Sony and LG, also had 3-D products on display. Of course, 3-D technology has been around since the 1950's. But there are attempts now to make it more mainstream than it has ever been in the past.
