Blu-ray sales could save Christmas for retailers

Executives at the nation's movie studios are hoping that the increase in sales for Blu-ray players will help the home video market from going in the tank this holiday season.

The movie execs predict that 10.5 million households will be able to play Blu-ray videos by the end of this year, the vast majority of those being played through the Sony PlayStation 3 video game system.

Even if that lower-than-expected estimate comes to pass, it will mean more than 3 million more Blu-ray-capable devices have to be sold through the holiday season.
