It sorta looks like an iPhone. It has a touch screen like the iPhone. But the new phone takes advantage of Google mobile technology.

The new phone is called the G1.

It has a large touch screen but it also has some features the iPhone doesn't. For one thing, it boasts of a trackball, a slide-out keyboard and easy access to Google's e-mail and mapping programs.

T-Mobile says the G1 will start selling for $179 with a two-year contract. That's $20 less than the least expensive iPhone in the U.S.

The G1 device will be sold in U.S. stores starting on October 22nd and will be available only in cities where the company has rolled out its third-generation wireless data network.

The data plan for the phone will cost $25 per month on top of the calling service, at the low end of the range for data plans at U.S. wireless carriers.
