The FBI is about to give its most wanted bank robbers, violent criminals and terrorists a higher profile.

Photos and information on recently committed crimes will soon appear on 150 digital billboards in 20 cities nationwide, including Indianapolis.

The FBI is teaming up with Phoenix-based Clear Channel Outdoor to begin airing mug shots following a successful test run in Philadelphia that led to several arrests.

Clear Channel Outdoor is donating the eight-second spots and the company will also pre-empt paid advertising if the FBI needs to broadcast an urgent message.

The use of electronic billboards in crime fighting has spread across the country in recent years, and some criminals have been known to turn themselves in after seeing their photos.
