An Indianapolis business reports losing $80,000 in a Super Bowl ticket scam, while a city woman reports losing $2,000 trying to buy tickets online in a separate incident.
WISH-TV reports that Sports Events LLC said in a report to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department that it deposited two checks from a California buyer in the bank. The checks initially cleared, so they mailed the tickets. The bank later called to report the checks were fraudulent and forged. It is not clear how many tickets were involved.
The Indianapolis Star reports 51-year-old Tracy Copeland told police she answered two ticket ads on Craigslist. She sent $500 for two tickets to one seller and $1,500 for two tickets to the other. She called police Friday when she realized she was victimized.
