When the Giants made their magical post-season run back into the Super Bowl perhaps no one was happier in Michiana than South Bend resident Chris Godfrey.

The former Michigan Wolverine and New York Giant guard has lived in South Bend for 22 years after going to law school at Notre Dame.

His son John helped lead St. Joe to the state football finals each of the last two years.

John's had a pretty good role model in his dad.

"He's taught me to be a good person as well and to not screw up in life," John said of his dad.

Chris is the founder of Life Athletes, an organization that promotes being pro life and abstinence before marriage. Current Giant and Notre Dame alum Justin Tuck is a part of the organization.

"We're all made up of two things," Chris explains. "We're made up of talent and we're made up of heart. Talents are God given. We're not all athletes. But our hearts are characters, things we make for ourselves."

Chris delivers his message nationwide. He has certain bling that helps get his message across.

"Having this nice wonderful diamond Super Bowl ring is really nice tool I have in my tool chest," Chris says with a smile as he shows us.

Yep---he's s a Super Bowl Champion. Chris was #61 on the New York Giants--the man the that protected Phil Simms. He was the starting guard in 1987 and famously hoisted coach Bill Parcells in the air after the Giants won their first ever Super Bowl.

"it was great because the giants fans were really hungry," Chris remembers. "They hadn't won since the 57 team. So they were wildly appreciative."

Just last week, the '87 team came together for its 25th anniversary.

"They were my brothers," Chris says of his old teammates. "Some of had gone astray, some of them had done really well but they were all a part of your family.

"There was a common bond that we all really felt. That's something I savored really for the first time 25 years later."

Now the Giants are playing here in Indiana, where the Godfreys live and that's pretty cool.

"It's almost too good to be true," Chris says laughing. "A couple of weeks ago, I turned to [my wife] and said, they could be coming out here. That's going to make for a whole lot of fun."

And you know who he'll be cheering for.

"all Blue" Chris says. "Well--Giants blue."
