Gas prices on the rise again in Michiana

Gas prices have risen nearly 30 cents in the last 24 hours.

Sunday morning, gas sat at around $3.59 per gallon and has since risen to $3.89 with some gas stations charging more than $4 per gallon for premium.

Some drivers tried using technology to minimize the impact.

"On my phone I have a gas price app, so I checked it and thought maybe the gas prices just along our street still hadn't quite gone up," said Alfred Lemmon, who uses the GasBuddy app.

Unfortunately the app didn't show the most recent price for the station Lemmon where decided to fill-up.

"I was expecting $3.65 and it had already gone up, so it's a more than 20 cent shock and it's a lot when you start talking about 14 gallons. It's painful. This time last year it was almost half what we're paying now, so if you're not seeing any increase in other parts of your life to suddenly have this increase here and then it drives the price of everything else up" said Lemmon.

Other drivers also expressed surprise at the latest hike.

"It's getting pretty bad. I remember back when I first started driving I had a smaller car and it was 30 bucks a tank, but now it's just getting ridiculous. I used to top it off every once in a while, but now I just drive until the light comes on and then I just put in a half a tank and then just drive until the light comes on again," said driver Bill Fuentes.
