Another day, another record high.

We're all tired of seeing it, hearing it, and paying for it.

Gas prices jumped to $4.19 a gallon in Michiana.

That's almost 20 cents higher than the national average.

If you were at the right place at the right time Thursday, you may have seen some relief -- relief that, just months ago, we would've called outrageous.

Drivers in Michiana tell Newscenter 16 they’re spending between 240 and 360 dollars a month on gas. Many double that number when factoring in their significant other.

Mike Kmitta saw the sign at Phillips 66 in Roseland and had to stop. It says $4.18 a gallon, but if you pay cash it's $4.14 a gallon.

Kmitta says, “I pay cash, so it’s good for me. A lot of people use credit cards.”

Ani Ikene does, but says, “Gas should be the same price whether you pay cash or debit.”

One driver said, “What can we do about it?”

If you drove about three miles up the road into Niles, Michigan, it was your lucky day at Walmart's pumps.

Marla Stephenson says, “I was excited when I saw $3.98.”

Next to her, Katherine Maddox says, “That's not cool at all. It really has affected my life. I don't get paid much . I'm a waitress, so I only make $2.13 an hour plus tips. That's not good. How am I supposed to pay for gas when I don't make enough tips?”

The word “tip” is what's getting all these drivers through a rough time -- tips on budgeting.

Kmitta says, “My wife has a car, so we'll use that. She gets a lot better gas mileage. We use that for driving around.”
