Gordy Young was born in Binghamton, New York on July 7, 1953. His father was a salesman in the construction business. His mother, a radio personality and actress in regional theater productions.

During childhood, his family moved around quite a bit. They lived in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Philadelphia and eventually settled in the suburban Chicago area.

Gordy attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. In 1978 he accepted his first job in broadcasting as an announcer with WNNO Radio in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

From there, his radio career took him to Madison, Wisconsin where he worked at several stations before landing his first television job as a host for a children's cartoon show on WMSN-TV in 1986.

When Gordy auditioned for a job as the weekend weatherman at WMTV in Madison, not only did he get the job, but was so well-received that the station made him co-host of the weekday morning news program.

In 1994, Young joined WNDU-TV where he presently co-hosts "16 Morning News" and NewsCenter 16 at Noon with Tricia Sloma.

Gordy's hobbies include ping-pong, genealogy, and playing guitar. He also collects antique radios and television sets.
