Katherine Rufener came to WNDU in May, 2010 as a general assignment reporter and web producer.
She is proud to call Newscenter 16 her first employer after graduating from Eastern Illinois University in May. “I walked across the stage, got my diploma, hopped in a U-haul and drove to South Bend that same day,” she said.
Katherine is proud to call Mattoon, IL home. “We’re famous for having an entire festival devoted to bagels and for being the hometown of the original Burger King.”
Katherine received a bachelor degree from EIU with a concentration in broadcast news and electronic media production.
While at school she worked at the on-campus television station WEIU News Watch. She worked as a producer, reporter and anchor among other positions. She would like to thank Kelly Runyon, Janice Collins, Fred Peralta and her other mentors at WEIU for their guidance and her family and friends for their support.
She won several awards for best television news reporting in Illinois, and along with her team members at WEIU was awarded an Emmy for best student newscast in 2009.
When she’s not reporting, Katherine loves playing with her cat Kit-Kat and puppy Trixie, shopping, going to the beach, traveling, and working out.
You can friend Katherine on facebook or contact her by e-mail at Katherine.Rufener@wndu.com if you have story ideas or comments to share.
Katherine is honored to be a new member of the WNDU Newscenter 16 team and is excited to begin serving the people of Michiana by bringing them the news they want to hear.
