Joel Schipper joined the WNDU news team in September 2006 as reporter for “16 Morning News” and the feature segments “All Access Pass”, “16 Unique Eats”, and “Do the Right Thing”.

In July 2007, Joel took the reins as the anchor to Michiana’s top rated Saturday Morning News program, “16 Saturday Morning”. He also anchors the 6 and 11PM newscasts on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

A native to the Midwest, Joel was born and raised near Grand Rapids, MI. He moved to Barry University in Miami, FL on an acting scholarship and finished his college career at Grand Valley State University in Michigan with a degree in broadcast journalism.

He began his broadcasting career as an intern for the NBC/Universal syndicated entertainment news show "Access Hollywood" in Los Angeles followed by internships at WSVN in Miami, Florida and WOOD in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Joel then landed a job as morning reporter at KMIR, the NBC affiliate in Palm Springs, CA. While there, Joel covered many local and national stories, including the Southern California earthquakes, deadly wildfires, and the Michael Jackson Trial.

As an Emmy Nominated Reporter, he has covered such major events as the Academy Awards, Billboard Music Awards in Miami, red carpet premieres, and other entertainment events in Hollywood, New York City, and Toronto. He has interviewed almost every major A-list celebrity including Nicole Kidman, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Uma Thurman, and many others, including First Lady Laura Bush.

Some of his stories have been seen on MSNBC and CNN. In the summer of 2007, Joel can be seen on Kathy Griffin’s hit reality show “My Life on the D-List”, which airs on the BRAVO Network. Joel is also a freelance correspondent for "US Weekly Magazine" and Canada's #1 entertainment show, "Star! Daily."

In February 2008, Joel was honored by the Indiana Associated Press for his work at WNDU.

Joel is glad to be back in the Midwest, close to family and friends, who live in Michigan.

In his free time, Joel enjoys going to the gym, hiking, and traveling.
