Kate Chappell joined NewsCenter 16 in July of 2012 as a General Assignment Reporter.
Prior to joining the NewsCenter 16 Team, Kate held multiple internships with various news stations in Wisconsin, including an NBC affiliate in Madison and Fox in Milwaukee. At each, she gained valuable experience in all aspects of news reporting. Part of her reporting included the contentious recall election of Governor Scott Walker, which involved the opportunity to interview main stage figures on both sides of the political party spectrum.
Kate graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May of 2012, with a double major in Journalism and Political Science. While in college, Kate worked for the highly acclaimed Badger Herald student newspaper, conducting online/on-site video news stories, as well as for WSUM student radio. Her radio position involved a significant amount of anchoring and reporting for daily news casts. In addition she held multiple roles for the UW J-School where Kate represented her class at the undergraduate symposium. One of the most enjoyable news stories Kate helped put together was for PBS Washington Week involving the aforementioned Gov. Walker recall election.
Kate was born in Fort Myers, Florida, but raised in Lake Geneva Wisconsin, so she is used to those tough Midwest winters! She is excited about returning to Michiana where she has extensive family ties. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and staying active in many sports, to include volleyball. She makes a point of keeping up with current politics and world events.
You’ll see Kate reporting on the morning show or in the evening news block. You can also like her page on Facebook to stay up-to-date on her stories!
