First night game in 21 years bringing plenty of hype

There's no question the first night game at Notre Dame Stadium in 21 years is bringing plenty of hype.

While 21 years may not seem like a long time to some, just remember--guys like Manti Te'o weren't even born when the Irish played Michigan under the lights back on September 15, 1990 at Notre Dame Stadium.

"It's something new--something I'm looking forward to," Te'o says. "It's something the guys are looking forward to. We just hope the fans enjoy it. We're going to need their support, their energy."

Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick has said he wants to see a louder Notre Dame Stadium this weekend.

A 4-game win streak coupled with a night game versus USC should provide that electric atmosphere.

"I think it will be a great time for the fans and for both teams involved," safety and captain Harrison Smith says."A kind of an environment that you will never see at Notre Dame--a night game. Especially since its such a storied rivalry. The fans are going to be pretty into and rowdy I think."

Notre Dame and USC kickoff at 7:30 Saturday. WNDU's coverage begins nine minutes prior with NewsCenter 16 at 6. Then "Countdown to Kickoff" takes over at 6:30 leading you up to the Irish and Trojans.
