Wakarusa Dime Store scored extra points Friday as football fans rushed to get their newest jumbo jelly bean flavors, blue and gold.
This year's beans are the store's way of saluting the Irish for their undefeated season. They taste like lemon and blueberry.
And get this Irish fans, to show their support, store owners refused to sell red beans Friday. That's because red is one of Alabama’s colors.
The store has released a new jelly bean flavor every year since the 1980's. It normally is introduced starting the second week of January, but store owners say they deliberately rushed to get this year's beans out.
"This year's bean is earlier than normal to show we support the Irish in the big, upcoming game,” says Mack McNally the Wakarusa Dime Store Owner. “We wanted the public to have enough time to buy the new flavor, enjoy them, and in the end support the team."
Store owners ordered 3,000 pounds of the beans in time for the game, and expect to reorder soon. For 2012 alone, the store sold close to 100 tons worth of jellybeans.
