A Notre Dame legend and the school’s Athletic Director believe the Irish are back because of its seniors.
“The fact this football team didn’t quit in the end no matter what the odds were—they stayed together, played hard—
I’m very proud of this football team,” all-time Irish great Joe Theismann told NewsCenter 16 Monday night moments after the Irish lost to Alabama in the national title game. “It’s a good foundation to start and build and go forward.”
“The legacy of this year is restoring the program,” says Irish Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick. “This outcome doesn’t change that one bit. They brought this program back. There are 120 other schools that would have love to be in this game and we were here. We weren’t as good as the guys on the other side of the ball and we know what we have to do to get there.”
“The progress we made in three years is spectacular. I couldn’t be any prouder.”
Notre Dame returns 15 of 22 starters next season.
