Irish Captain and linebacker, Manti Te’o, was named one of three finalists for the Heisman Trophy yesterday, along with Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein.
Manti is looking to become the second defensive player to ever win the Heisman this Saturday when college football’s most prestigious award is handed out in New York City.
Notre Dame has been making a big push all season for Manti’s Heisman run. The athletic department even produced a music video playing off the 1956 Harry Belafonte song “Day O.”
The song is called “Te’o” and it is sung by 2010 Notre Dame graduate Pat McKillen.
Manti is looking to become the eighth Irish player to win the trophy in Notre Dame's history, and the first to win since Tim Brown in 1987.
