Holy War II: St. Joe vs. Marian for sectional football title

It's the Holy War II Friday night at Father Bly Field as arch rivals St. Joe and Marian clash for the 3A Sectional Championship.

The Indians won the regular season meeting back in week 6 and also defeated Marian in last year's sectional final. That was the first time ever the two teams ever played for the sectional championship.

St. Joe also knocked Marian out of the playoffs two years ago.

Needless to say, the Knights are ready for revenge. Quarterback Vince Ravotto says the losses the last two years in sectional and in the regular season this year motivate his team that much more. They know this game is about more than just the sectional title--it's bragging rights for life. They don't want their careers ending with a loss to St. Joe.

The Indians, who have played for the 3A state title each of the last two seasons, view things differently. They feel whomever the opponent is, the biggest motivation is winning the sectional championship.

"It's all about hardware," coach Ben Downey says.

St. Joe and Marian kickoff at 7pm Friday at Father Bly Field.
