A couple Notre Dame fans had more to celebrate Saturday night than just a big win.

For them, the most exciting part of the day came before kickoff.

Purdue grad Jason Chrapek got down on one knee before the game to propose to his girlfriend of more than three years.

Alicia Chappell's a Purdue grad too, but, they're both lifelong Notre Dame fans.

So what better place to pop the question than in front of the stadium before a big game.

“This place has always been something really special to me,” said Chrapek. “I came here with my grandparents and my parents, the grotto's real special to me. It's just something we both share”

“It's perfect,” said Chappell. “It is so perfect and romantic and i love him so much. It's amazing.”

The couple spent the rest of the afternoon cheering on the Irish and celebrating with friends.

They say a Notre Dame win made their special day all the more sweet.
