What would it mean to win the National Championship

Win or lose the most storied program in college football history has returned to the upper echelon of the sport, now the question is whether or not Notre Dame will make it to the very top and win the title of National Champion.

“We all look to aspire to the top of our profession,” said Coach Brian Kelly, “this is the pinnacle for players and coaches—is to be the best, so that’s what it would mean. That, you have taken your team and your program to the top of college football.”

When asked what it would mean for the Irish to win it all, Notre Dame Quarterback Everett Golson said, “Just knowing that everything we’ve worked for, everything that I’ve worked for, the fact that the team has been kinda, it’s helped us in the end, it’d mean the world.”

Mike Golic, a legacy to the university’s football program says it would mean the world to take home the championship trophy, “This is something you always have on your mind, it’s always a dream. So very fortunate for it to be a reality this year, and to have this opportunity, that we’re all just very excited.”

Golic said just being in south Florida and seeing how close they are to their goal just puts everything in focus.

But it is not just the players who are excited and ready to win, a national championship would be a wish fulfilled for the entire Notre Dame nation of fans.

“It’d mean a great deal, especially being a senior and coming in with these seniors with me, I think there’s 14 of us left. To be the senior class coming here, I know it’d mean a lot to everyone,” said Captain Zack Martin.

Fellow captain, Manti Te’o said “I don’t know how much it’d mean to Notre Dame, but I know how much it’d mean to me. And I know it’ll probably mean just as much to Notre Dame. For us to represent Notre Dame and that kind of light, to represent everybody that’s come before us, and everyone that’s hosted the trophy and everyone that hasn’t hosted that trophy.”

Taking home the title would legitimize what Brian Kelly has done since taking over the program three years ago. But more than anything else, being number one and hosting the BCS trophy is what each and every player and fan hopes for—it is why they play the game.
