The University of Notre Dame is establishing an endowed scholarship in memory of a student killed last year when high winds blew over the aerial lift he was atop while filming football practice.

The university announced Wednesday that the Declan Drumm Sullivan Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to students who are
not only in financial need, but who also have demonstrated the traits that Sullivan did. The university says that could be through an interest in filmmaking, service to under-privileged youth, creative writing, or other passions.

The 20-year-old Sullivan from Long Grove, Ill., was killed last Oct. 27.

The Rev. John Jenkins, the university president, is writing to Notre Dame alumni inviting them to contribute to the scholarship fund.
