Notre Dame picks next leprechaun

Notre Dame has its next leprechaun.

Chicago native Johnny Romano will take the reigns as the the official mascot of Notre Dame football and men's basketball this fall. Romano, currently a junior, is a marketing major.

He beat out five other finalists during a grueling set of interviews and contests to see who would best represent Notre Dame in one of its most visible roles.

Lou Ganser will return to his role as women's basketball leprechaun while Jack Shadid will serve as the leprechaun for hockey.

For the 6th time, WNDU's Angelo Di Carlo served as the media interviewer for the tryouts. Angelo's role is conduct a fake 'live interview' with each candidate and to ask them questions they could get asked sometime during a media interview. The questions range from easy to normal to absurd and tough to ensure that each candidate will properly represent the university under all circumstances.
