Report: Notre Dame's Molnar to be introduced as UMass football coach Thursday

The University of Massachusetts has scheduled a press conference for Thursday afternoon where multiple reports indicate they will name Notre Dame offensive coordinator Charley Molnar as their next head football coach.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette says the press conference does not indidicate what will be announced but that multiple sources say it will be the introduction of Molnar.

Molnar has served as Notre Dame's offensive coordinator since arriving with Brian Kelly last season. He previously coached under Kelly at Cincinnati and Central Michigan before that. He's never been a head coach before.

UMass is moving to the Division 1-A level next year and wanted a fresh start with its head coach.

It's unknown whether Molnar would still coach the Irish in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando.
