National Championship: It's real now

Notre Dame arrived in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, practiced for the first time on Thursday, and now that the they are getting settled in , the question on everyone’s mind is whether it has sunk into the players’ minds that they are about to play for college football’s biggest prize.

For many of the players, it is a realization that is just starting to hit them.

“It’s starting to get there,” said Irish captain Kapron Lewis-Moore, “Getting to the warm weather and seeing everybody greet us and everything that was pretty cool. But I don’t think it’s going to hit me until game day.”

“Oh it’s real, it’s definitely real” said Zeke Motta.

After growing up dreaming about playing in a national championship Motta says that now that he is looking at it “it’s become real to me, and it’s awesome."

“You think about being in a national championship, and to be able to play football in the biggest stage possible other than the Super Bowl, what else more could you want?” Motta said.

It definitely is a fun experience, and like Notre Dame safety Matthias Farley says, it is also surreal, “I think for a lot of people when you sit down you’re like wow, we’re in the national championship that’s something you dream of from the time you’re a little kid, whether it be football national championship or soccer championship.”

Matthias called the experience a “blessing” and “great opportunity.” Certainly the soon-to-be very real championship game is an opportunity for the team to show off their hard work on a national stage.

Notre Dame will practice one more time on Friday, followed by a beach party and a little time to relax heading into the weekend and of course, Monday’s game.
