Mike Golic Chips for Charity at ND

South Bend, Ind. Former ND captain and sports media personality Mike Golic made a return to South Bend Saturday to support a local charity in the Travelers Chipping Challenge.

Golic presented a check for $5,000 to Paqui Kelly on behalf of the Kelly Cares Foundation. The former football player said it is a cause that he truly supports.

“You know she's a two time survivor of breast cancer it take so much to fight for your own life like she did,” said Golic of Kelly. “But to show the strength to now try to help others I think is a key thing. You know when you're the head coach of Notre Dame football and the wife of the head coach -- you have a platform. It's up to you on how you want to use it and I think they're using it for some real good.”

Golic also took the chanced to sign some autographs and chat with some of his biggest fans. Participants got to try their own hand at chipping, too.

He was in for the USC game later that night and said he has enjoyed being a part of the great American rivalry all these years.

“If you grow up loving Notre Dame, you learn to hate USC,” Golic said. “And if you grow up playing at Notre Dame you don't lose to USC. It’s just such a great national rivalry.”

Although the stakes we’re not as high the game as the last time the two teams met, Golic says he looks forward to the game regardless.

“Right now it's two teams kinda looking to get it going again,” he said. “Beating the other one is going to get you on a nice stepping stone to the end of the year.”
