On the anniversary of the death of Declan Sullivan, we are reminded that what happens on the football field pales in comparison to the bigger picture items in life.
As Notre Dame gets set to face Navy on Saturday at the stadium, certainly no one associated with the football program is happy with the 4-3 record.
It certainly could be a lot better, but Brian Kelly stops short of comparing what the Irish are going through this year to what they went through last year.
Kelly feels this year's team has created a lot more of a mess than what the 2010 team had to go through.
Coach Kelly says, “Adversity means a lot of things to a lot of people when you’re throwing around the term. I think last year’s team overcame adversity. This year’s team needs to overcome itself. They’ve got to play better consistently. Adversity, to me, is a bigger picture. We had adversity last year. This year’s guys need to just play better football.”
Notre dame and Navy will kickoff at 3:30 on Saturday at the stadium. The Irish have lost three of four to the Midshipmen including two in a row. Navy has never won three in a row in the series.
