Brian Kelly knows what he wants from his football team.
"I want tough gentlemen," Kelly said Tuesday. "Tough guys on the field, gentlemen off the field. We are trying to build that on a day-to-day basis."
Kelly believes he got that Saturday in Notre Dame's 23-13 win over BYU.
"We were able to make that transition the way we wanted our players to make that transition," Kelly said. "Weather was never an issue. They were focused--single minded focus on playing that game."
"These are the games that we love and we thrive in--the physical tough games that you just have to fight to an end," Irish running back Cam McDaniel said after the win over BYU. "I don't know--I think that says something about our football team."
Kelly admits that focus hasn't always been there. It's something they are looking to achieve on a consistent basis.
"We don't play the game the way we need to play each it and every week," Kelly said. "Now that I'm able to show it, they are going 'we get it coach.'"
Kelly says the Irish will need that mindset against 8th ranked Stanford this Saturday.
