Brian Kelly says Notre Dame won't be able to have the same success as it did last year by simply playing as well it did a year ago.
“If we do it like we did last year, we are going to be an 8-5 team," Kelly declared Thursday at Notre Dame Football Media Day. "Because everybody has taken their motivation off what we did last year and have worked harder. We supplied motivation for the entire college football world, that if Notre Dame can do it, we can do it. So everybody has worked exponentially that much more in their off-season because of us. So, if you do it like you did last year, you’re an 8-5 football team. That has been the message since January in terms of what we needed to do.”
Irish quarterback Tommy Rees and captain and offensive tackle Zack Martin say the message was received loud and clear from the coaches that this team must do a lot more to be successful after a trip to the BCS National Championship Game seven months ago.
"You don't just begin this climb at the top of the mountain," Kelly said. "We have to start all over again. That's been the theme. How do we get back there?"
Notre Dame won't be getting back there with Everett Golson at Quarterback. The 2012 starter is suspended from school for the fall semester after using "poor academic judgment" back in May. Kelly said Thursday that Golson
