Irish linebacker Prince Shembo missed the Michigan State game to be at his father's side.
On that Friday, September 16, Maurice Shembo suffered a brain aneurysm but thankfully he has made a fantastic recovery.
During pregame warm-ups at the Air Force game a few weeks ago, Notre Dame staff member and former receiver, David Grimes, pointed someone out to Prince standing on the sidelines.
That someone was his dad. Prince had no idea his father was coming to the game. Maurice surprised his son and the two shared a wonderful father-son moment before the game.
Prince shares his feelings of his father’s recovery. “All I can say is that it's a miracle and a blessing because my father is pretty much back to normal. Now I talk to him everyday… It's a blessing. I love him.”
The Shembo family has the father of Prince's teammate, Lo Wood, to thank. Lo Wood Senior had found Maurice Shembo unconscious in his hotel room and immediately got him medical attention.
Maurice Shembo attended both the Air Force and USC games. He plans to take it easy this week against Navy but will certainly be watching.
